What PDF to JPG does

PDF to JPG draws each page you select at the resolution you choose and saves it as a picture. One page becomes one image; several pages download together as a ZIP.

Everything happens on your device. Your browser opens, renders and encodes the PDF, so the file is never sent to our servers. The trade-off is that speed depends on your device's memory, which is why one export is limited to 200 pages.

A page image is a flat picture. Its text can no longer be selected or searched and its links stop working, so keep the PDF as your master copy. Choose JPG for small files of photo-like pages, and PNG when sharp text and line art matter more than size.

Is this the right tool?

Good for

  • Posting a page of a report in a chat, slide or social post
  • Uploading a certificate or ID page to a form that only accepts images
  • Making a preview picture of a document's first page for a website
  • Capturing just a chart or figure with the Crop control
  • Converting a confidential PDF without sending it to any server

Not the right tool for

  • Getting text you can edit. A picture of a page has no characters in it.PDF to Word
  • Shrinking a PDF. Turning pages into pictures usually makes a document larger, and it stops being searchable.Compress PDF
  • Exported pictures that are still too heavy. Compress them instead of lowering the resolution until text blurs.Compress images

How to convert PDF to JPG

  1. Choose a PDF

Drop one PDF up to 50 MB. If it is password protected, enter the password to unlock the preview; it stays in the tab.

  2. Select pages

Use All, None, Odd or Even, tick thumbnails, or type a Page range such as 1-5, 8 and select Apply.

  3. Choose Image format

JPG gives smaller files. PNG keeps every pixel exactly.

  4. Pick a Quality preset

Small file is 96 DPI, Balanced is 150 DPI and Print is 300 DPI. Advanced settings adds exact Resolution (DPI), Target width (px), JPG quality and a Filename prefix.

  5. Crop if needed

Select Crop on the preview to export only part of a page.

  6. Convert and download

Select the Convert button, inspect a result with View at 100%, then choose Download all (ZIP) or download pictures one at a time.

Worked example

One chart from a 60-page annual report, for a slide

Say page 14 of an annual report holds a chart you want on a slide. Open the PDF, select None, then tick page 14.

Select Crop and drag the frame around the chart. Choose PNG so the thin axis lines and small labels stay crisp, and pick Print. The panel under the settings shows the pixel size the picture will have, so you can tell it is large enough for a full-width slide before you convert.

The result screen offers View at 100% for a close look, and the download is a single PNG. If your slide tool asks for a specific width, go back with Change settings and enter it under Target width (px) instead of guessing a DPI.

Tips for a better result

  • A PDF page has no fixed pixel size. A US Letter page is 1275 pixels wide at 150 DPI and 2550 at 300 DPI, so doubling the DPI gives four times the pixels.
  • Use JPG for scanned pages and photos, and PNG for screenshots, diagrams and text.
  • Small text is the first thing to suffer when JPG quality is lowered. If letters look fuzzy, raise JPG quality or switch to PNG.
  • Set a Filename prefix before converting many pages so the pictures sort together after you unzip them.

PDF to JPG: questions and answers

What DPI should I use to convert a PDF to JPG?

Use 96 DPI for pictures that will only be seen in email or chat, 150 DPI for general screen use and 300 DPI for printing or zooming in on fine detail. Values up to 600 are available under Advanced settings but create very large images. If you know the pixel width you need, enter Target width instead.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server when I convert it to images?

No. The file is read and rendered by your browser, and the pictures are created in the same tab. Closing the tab clears them. That makes this tool a sensible choice for documents you would not send to an online service.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG discards detail the eye is less likely to notice. A page of plain text compresses well either way, but a scanned or photo-heavy page can be many times larger as PNG. Use PNG when you need exact edges and JPG when size matters.

Can I convert more than 200 pages?

Yes, in rounds. One export handles up to 200 pages, 500 megapixels in total and 100 MB of images, which keeps your browser responsive. Enter 1-200 in Page range, download, then run 201-400.
