What Extract PDF Pages does

Extract PDF Pages copies the pages you choose into one new PDF, in the order you choose. The file is assembled on your device and is never uploaded, so it also suits statements, contracts and medical records.

Pages are copied as they are rather than redrawn, so text stays selectable and image quality does not change. Supported form fields, metadata and bookmarks to the pages you keep come along, and links between kept pages still work.

This page opens the splitter in its Extract pages mode. If you would rather end up with several files, such as one per chapter, switch to Custom groups or Every N pages in the same workspace.

Is this the right tool?

Good for

  • Sending one signed page or a single statement out of a long bundle
  • Pulling the pages a form or portal asks for out of a larger scan
  • Making a short handout from a few chapters of a report
  • Reordering pages while you extract them, such as 5, 1-3
  • Cutting down a confidential document without uploading it

Not the right tool for

  • Removing a few pages and keeping all the rest. Deleting them is quicker than selecting everything else.Delete PDF pages
  • Cutting a document into several files at once, such as one per chapter.Split PDF
  • Saving the photos or logos on a page as image files.Extract PDF images

How to extract pages from a PDF

  1. Choose a PDF

Add a PDF of up to 50 MB, and the workspace opens with Extract pages already selected.

  2. Select the pages

Click thumbnails, Shift-click to add a run of pages, or type them into Selected pages, for example 1–3, 5. All, None, Odd, Even and Invert change the selection in one step.

  3. Check the order

Pages are saved in the order you type them, and a page you type twice appears twice.

  4. Name the file

Change the Output filename if you like. The new PDF gets that name and your original is unchanged.

  5. Extract and download

Select the Extract button, which shows how many pages the new PDF will have, then download the file from the results.

Worked example

Two pages of a 30-page bank statement bundle for a rental application

Say a landlord asks for proof of income, and you have a 30-page PDF of bank statements in which only page 4, the summary, and page 17, the salary payment, matter. Open the bundle; the workspace starts in Extract pages.

Type 4, 17 into Selected pages or click the two thumbnails, and the button reads Extract 2 pages. Change the Output filename to something the landlord will recognise, such as income-proof.pdf.

Extract and download, then open the new file and check both pages before you send it. The other 28 pages, with their account details, stay on your device and are not in the new PDF.

Tips for a better result

  • Typing is faster than clicking in long documents: 1-5, 12, 20-22 selects nine pages at once.
  • When you know which pages you do not want, select those and choose Invert to select everything else.
  • Extracted pages keep their size and orientation, so turn a sideways scan the right way up with Rotate PDF afterwards.
  • If a portal limits file size, compress the extracted PDF as well; fewer scanned pages can still make a large file.

Extract PDF Pages: questions and answers

How do I extract one page from a PDF?

Open the PDF, type the page number into Selected pages or click its thumbnail, and select Extract 1 page. The new PDF holds just that page at its original quality, and your original file keeps every page.

Can I extract pages in a different order?

Yes. Pages are saved in the order you type them, so 5, 1-3 puts page 5 first. A page typed twice appears twice, except a page with form fields or comments, which can be included only once.

Do links and bookmarks still work in the extracted PDF?

Links and bookmarks that point to pages you kept still work. Those that point to pages you left out are removed, so the new file has no links that lead nowhere. Check the bookmarks panel of the new file if readers rely on it.

Can I extract pages from a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. A PDF that needs a password to open has to be unlocked first with Unlock PDF, using the password you were given. Then open the unlocked copy here and extract the pages you need.
