What PDF to PowerPoint does

PDF to PowerPoint builds a PPTX with one slide per selected page. There are two outputs because a PDF does not store slide objects: there are no title placeholders, bullet lists or charts to hand back, only text and graphics at fixed positions.

Visual mode places a picture of each page on a slide. It is faithful to the original, and nothing on it can be edited. Editable text mode uses a picture of the page with its text removed as the background and lays real text boxes over it, so you can retype a heading or correct a number. It works for digital PDFs with horizontal Latin-script text; scanned pages need Visual mode.

Page thumbnails are read in your browser. The PDF is uploaded when you convert, and the temporary copy is deleted after the job. You download a single PPTX and can render a preview of it before you present.

Is this the right tool?

Good for

  • Presenting a report or brochure page by page in a meeting
  • Reusing a few PDF pages as slides inside an existing deck
  • Recovering a deck that only survives as a PDF export, so you can correct its wording
  • Dropping a one-page diagram onto a 16:9 slide without cropping it

Not the right tool for

  • Editing long passages of text. Slides are a poor home for paragraphs.PDF to Word
  • Scanned pages you want to edit. Editable text mode does not read scans; get the words out with OCR and paste them into your slides.OCR PDF
  • Single pictures for a website or chat message.PDF to JPG

How to convert a PDF to PowerPoint

  1. Choose a PDF

Drop one PDF up to 30 MB. Its pages are read on your device so you can pick slides before anything is uploaded.

  2. Pick a Conversion mode

Visual keeps the look of every page. Editable text gives you text boxes over an image background.

  3. Select pages

Tick thumbnails or type a range such as 1, 3-5 in Page numbers. Slides follow the page order of the PDF.

  4. Set Slide size

Source page proportions matches the PDF. Widescreen (16:9) and Standard (4:3) fit each page inside the slide without cropping.

  5. Convert

Select Convert to PowerPoint. Under Advanced you can choose Small image quality for a lighter file or High for sharper pictures.

  6. Preview and download

Rename the file, select Preview PowerPoint if you want to see the generated deck, then Download PowerPoint.

Worked example

Four pages of a 20-page quarterly report as slides

Say you need pages 2, 5, 6 and 11 of a quarterly report for Monday's review. The report is A4 portrait and your deck is widescreen.

Enter 2, 5-6, 11 in Page numbers, keep Visual mode and set Slide size to Widescreen (16:9). Each portrait page is centered on a wide slide with empty space on both sides, because pages are fitted whole and never cropped.

Page 5 has a headline figure that changed last week. Convert that page again in Editable text mode: the heading and the figure become text boxes over the page background, and you can type the new number in PowerPoint. Copy that slide into the visual deck.

Tips for a better result

  • Editable text is all or nothing. If one selected page cannot be rebuilt, the conversion stops; convert that page separately in Visual mode.
  • For a deck that will be projected, Standard image quality is enough. Choose High when people will zoom in on fine print.
  • Open the downloaded file in PowerPoint once before the meeting; the preview is close, but your installed fonts decide the final look.

PDF to PowerPoint: questions and answers

Why did Editable text mode refuse my PDF?

Editable text only rebuilds pages it can reproduce closely: digital PDFs with horizontal text in Latin script. A scanned page, rotated text or an unusual symbol on any selected page stops the conversion instead of producing a wrong slide. Select Switch to Visual mode, or convert the problem page on its own.

Will charts and tables become editable PowerPoint objects?

No. Charts, table grids, logos and photos stay part of the slide's background picture in both modes. Editable text mode rebuilds text only, so the numbers in a table become text boxes while the lines around them remain an image.

Which slide size should I choose for a portrait PDF?

Choose Source page proportions if the slides will be read on screen or exported again, because each slide then matches the page. Choose Widescreen (16:9) if the slides will join an existing deck; the page is fitted whole, with blank space at the sides. Source size is taken from the first page you select.

Why is my PPTX file so large?

Every slide carries a full-page image, and image data adds up quickly with page count. Open Advanced, pick Small image quality, or convert only the pages you plan to show.

Can I see the slides before I download the deck?

Yes. On the result screen, select Preview PowerPoint. The generated deck is sent to our server, rendered as a PDF and shown on the result screen. Decks over 30 MB cannot be previewed, so open those in PowerPoint instead.
