What PDF to PNG does
Each page you select becomes a PNG picture, drawn at the resolution you pick. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so table rules, chart labels and diagram lines stay as crisp as they look on screen, without the soft halo JPG leaves around edges.
Nothing is uploaded. Your browser opens and renders the PDF on your device and encodes the PNGs there, so a confidential document never reaches our servers. Pages are drawn on a white background, as they would print.
A PNG of a page is a picture: its text cannot be selected or searched and its links stop working, so keep the PDF as your master copy.
Is this the right tool?
Good for
- Putting a page with a table or chart into a slide deck without blurring its labels
- Showing a contract clause or an invoice line in a support ticket or chat
- Saving a page of a technical drawing with its thin lines intact
- Making images of a confidential document without sending it anywhere
Not the right tool for
- Scanned pages and photos you want to keep small. A PNG of a photo-like page can be many times larger than a JPG.PDF to JPG
- Getting the original photos and logos out of a PDF at their stored quality.Extract PDF images
- Text you can edit or search, which a PNG of a page cannot give you.PDF to Word
How to convert PDF to PNG
Choose a PDF
Add a PDF of up to 50 MB. A password-protected file asks for its password before the preview opens, and the password stays in the tab.
Select pages
Use All, None, Odd or Even, tick thumbnails, or type a Page range such as 2-4, 9 and select Apply.
Keep PNG as the Image format
PNG is already chosen. Switch to JPG only when smaller files matter more than sharp edges.
Pick a Quality preset
Balanced renders at 150 DPI for screens and Print at 300 DPI for zooming in or printing. Advanced settings adds an exact Resolution (DPI) and a Target width (px).
Crop part of a page
Select Crop on the preview to save only a chart, a signature block or a table.
Convert and download
Select the Convert button, check a picture with View at 100%, then download one PNG or choose Download all (ZIP).
Worked example
A wiring diagram from a 40-page equipment manual, for a work order
Say page 23 of a PDF manual shows the wiring diagram a technician needs, and your work-order system accepts images but not PDFs. Open the manual, select None, then tick page 23.
PNG is already the format, and here it matters: the diagram is mostly thin lines and small labels, exactly what JPG smears. Choose Print so the labels stay readable when the technician zooms in, and use Crop to frame just the diagram.
After converting, check the smallest label with View at 100%. If it is too small, go back with Change settings and raise the Resolution (DPI); enlarging a finished picture only blurs it.
Tips for a better result
- Pixels add up quickly: a US Letter page is about 2.1 megapixels at 150 DPI and 8.4 megapixels at 300 DPI.
- Pages of plain text make small PNGs because white space compresses well, while scans and photos make large ones.
- If the picture must be an exact width, such as 1920 pixels for a slide, enter it as Target width (px) instead of guessing a DPI.
PDF to PNG: questions and answers
What resolution should a PDF page be as a PNG?
For a slide or a web page, 150 DPI is usually enough: an A4 or Letter page comes out about 1,250 pixels wide. Choose 300 DPI when people will zoom in on small print or print the picture; up to 600 DPI suits fine drawings.
Are the PNG images transparent?
No. Each page is drawn on a white background, the way it would print, so areas that look empty in the PDF come out white. To put a figure on a coloured background, crop it tightly first.
Can I save just part of a page as a PNG?
Yes. Select Crop on the page preview and drag the frame around the area you want; only that area is saved, at the resolution you chose. Each selected page can have its own crop, so several figures can come out of one export.
Why does the text in my PNG look blurry?
The page was drawn with too few pixels for the size it is shown at. Choose Print, or a Target width that matches where the picture will appear. A PNG made from a scanned PDF cannot be sharper than the scan itself.
